What we're about

Gaming. With as much variety as we can muster. We have a number of events on Discord, and bring a pop-up game library to Stoup Capitol Hill every 2 weeks.

Some things we've done

  • Couch multiplayer video games

  • Board games

  • Tabletop RPGs

  • Story games

  • Dice games

  • Card games

  • Games with unusual setups. (ex. Space Team, Artemis, Mansions of Madness)

  • Playtesting and early access

This site is still a bit WIP. We'll be done editing it soon.

I'll write up a brief history of the group eventually.
We've been going since ~2013 (as a college club based in Tacoma). Then everyone moved around. Eventually landing (mostly) in Seattle.

In-person, bi-weekly meetup

In-person video games and board games. Sometimes VR. Sometimes TTRPGs or story games.

Where:
Stoup Capitol Hill (formerly Optimism Brewing)
The venue is all-ages.

Finding Us:
We're typically West of the bar (left, toward Broadway). Sometimes we are East of the bar (right, toward the food truck). Look for the projector and games.

When:
Every 2 weeks on Sunday. 2pm to 9pm (close)
We're properly ready around 2:30pm and start winding down around 8:30pm (last call)
Check the discord for updates.

Event Structure

What we'll bring:
• TVs, Projectors, Power, Internet, and a concerning amount of cables.
• A modest rotating board game library, courtesy of various members.
• Various digital games
• The Game Cube
• (Sometimes) A VR setup
• (Often) Retro games and unusual consoles, courtesy of Phil and Cal

What you can bring:
• Any board/tabletop games you'd like to play
• Any tech you'd like to hook up
• Any TTRPGs you're willing to run ad-hoc
• Outside food (no drinks)
• Nothing at all, if you like

Food:
• Stoup mainly serves beer. There are a couple non-alcoholic beverages on the list.
• There is typically a food truck availalbe for most of the event.
• There are plenty of food options nearby, and it is allowed inside.

A few notes:
• Long boardgames will usually begin toward the start of the event.
• Many different video games are played throughout the event.
• TTRPGs tend to be organized in advance, with occasional ad-hoc one-shots. Most are run online now.
• Storygames tend to be run ad-hoc if there's enough interest.
• When VR is set up, it's played within the taped lines and we'll swap folks out regularly if there's a line.

The Game Cube?

An AV box containing a variety of tech.It doesn't always hold the same things, but it typically has...
• A computer
• A Nintendo Switch
• An Xbox
• Internet + Wifi + Networking

Monthly Game Club

Like a book club, but for games. Each month, we vote on a game to try out, and then get together to discuss our thoughts. Then we vote on the next one.Run from #monthly-game-club on Discord.

Structure

• Game Candidates collected over the course of the month in the Discord channel.
• Vote for next month opens immediately after discussion;
• Vote closes on the following Sunday
• Play the game at any time over the course of the month (You aren't expected to finish it)
• Get together at the next meetup to discuss the game

Game selection guidelines

• Voted on each month (drop suggestions in the Discord channel)
• Prefer recent indie?
• Prefer sub-$20, Game Pass, Free, or Demos

Discussion kick-starters

• What did you think of it? Things that worked for you? Things that didn't?
• What are its standout features? How might you pitch it to someone? Do other games do anything similar? How does this one's design compare?
• Do you want to see more games like this? Do you think it's likely they'll get made?

Servers & Ongoing Games

Over the years, we've run persistent servers of various games. Usually for a few months at a time. Most of these have been Survival-craft games. The connection info for any active ones is typically on the Discord.Backups are made regularly. You can usually invite your friends. The only long-standing rule we've needed so far is "don't make me have to ban anybody"

Currently Active

Enshrouded:
It's just about everything we wanted out of Valheim.

On Haitus

These aren't up and active anymore, but the data is available if we wish to return.Barotrauma:
Life got in the way.
Starbase:
After you figure out how to build stuff, there's not much to do. It's still in development!
Heavily Modded Valheim:
We changed all sorts of things to make the grind more palatable. We still fell off around Iron age.
Conan Exiles:
We got to the point where we overpowered everything, then fell off.
Empyrion w/ Reforged Eden:
It was great, if a bit grindy. We got to space and then fell off.
Vanilla Valheim:
We keep falling off this around Iron age.
